MT. PLEASANT — Family and community members gathered Saturday, May 7 as Mt. Pleasant High School students walked their literal red carpet to show of their best prom duds.
While some promenades can get a bit boring, the students made sure to entertain the crowd consistently with creative poses, handshakes, dance moves, and even outfits.
If the smiles, laughs, and energies presented at promenade were any indicator, it is certain that these students had a fun filled night.
Students were eager to get the night going and many danced their way from promenade straight to the big event.
Throughout Henry and Washington Counties prom season has brought us The Stepbrothers, Dumb & Dumber, secret handshakes, and even a beautiful young woman on crutches.
The Mt. Pleasant prom theme may have been red carpet, but that did not stop Keyton Ford-Hurd and William Sloan from enjoy the break from studying in tropical themed outfits.
Some students, however, did keep with a more traditional understanding of the red carpet theme with elegant dresses and traditional tuxedos.
Bowen Davis and Elsie Lange were anything but ordinary as they took the crowd’s breath away with a beautiful spin at the end of the walkway.
Traditional outfits also did not mean traditional poses, though.
A “proposal” from Lily Lien to Jayden Knifong warmed the hearts and giggled the bellies of those in attendance.
Overall, the students took the opportunity to not only show off their outfits and creativity, but also their muscles and nods to a bright future via sunglasses throughout the procession.
Mt. Pleasant held prom in the gym from 8:30-11:30 p.m. with an after prom party to follow.
Students did not even need to travel to a different location for the after prom activities as they were also held at the high school from midnight to 2:30 a.m.
All week the high school office had prizes piled high waiting to be given away at after prom while they enjoyed snacks, activities, and even a Hypnotist.
Crowds all across the Henry and Washington counties were pleased to see that this years prom attendees took their commitment to fun seriously.
Next years prom attendees have large shoes to fill in the areas of creativity and good, wholesome fun, but there is little doubt that the next crop of students will be able to exceed all expectations.
