MT. PLEASANT — The Mt. Pleasant Community School District libraries continue to receive support from the community in replenishing their libraries from not only the Storybook Ball Silent Auction, but also the local Kiwanis Club.
A large turnout showed up to the First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall Saturday morning for the Kiwanis’ annual pancake breakfast.
With such a large turnout, Kiwanis members had a hard time keeping up with the demand for pancakes, and raised $3,000 for Mt. Pleasant Elementary School libraries.
“The Mount Pleasant Kiwanis Club held their annual pancake breakfast on Saturday, March 18,” Mt. Pleasant Public Relations Chairman Ryan Duffie said. “This year, 100% of the net proceeds will go to MPCSD Elementary Libraries to help restock their book inventory.”
“Libraries in the schools are really down,” a Mt. Pleasant Kiwanis member said at a recent Alive After Five event. “During COVID books got checked out and never came back.”
“The MP Kiwanis Club and the MPCSD libraries thank the community for the great turnout and support!” Duffie said.
According to the Mt. Pleasant Kiwanis Club, their fundraisers always benefit youth in the community.
Previous recipients of their fundraising efforts include local Boy and Girl Scout troupes, Headstart, Pumpkin Patch Party, girls softball and Little League Baseball teams, post prom, Eagle's Fly In, REC Center scholarships, high school senior scholarships, library summer reading programs, Christamore Young House, Steck-Vaughn Vocabulary program, elementary playground equipment, and the Tree of Lights Program.
