MT PLEASANT — Wednesday, June 21 school aged children flocked to the library in New London for another summer program.
Children were invited to an “Art Camp with Miss Brittney” where they enjoyed a free guided painting session meant just for kids.
Library employee Brittney Lerner lead the charge, and helped the children create art and fun summer memories.
Danville State Savings Bank sponsored the Art Camp to make it available to all children.
“It went great,” Library Director Taelor Donnolly said.
According to Donnolly, there were around forty kids in attendance Wednesday.
During the school year, the library usually sees 10-20 students show up for programming, but numbers do usually pick up in the summer.
While 40-50 kids is significantly more than they are used to during the school year, this has been a consistent number over the summer, and Donnolly is excited.
Donnolly attributes the recent uptick in attendance to the library’s promotional efforts.
The last couple of years the began library going into the schools and promoting the summer programs at assemblies or in individual classrooms.
Donnolly would also attribute the higher attendance numbers to the way library staff blasts events on social media.
As of July 1, Donnolly celebrates her first year as library director for HJ Nugen, and would deem the year a successful one.
