MT. PLEASANT — Henry County Board of Supervisors appointed a new member to the Conservation board of directors, Tuesday morning.
According to Supervisors Marc Lindeen, the supervisors held interviews with two candidates last week before deciding to offer the position to David Ackles.
Ackles is no stranger to public service as he already serves as a fire captain on the New London Fire Department. For his day job, Ackles works as a pump truck operator at Regional Utility Service Systems.
Lindeen stated that both candidates were “very capable and very impressive.”
“I’d just reiterate at they were both qualified,” Supervisor Greg Moeller said. “They both had some specific talents they brought to the board.”
While the other candidate will not join the conservation board, Conservation Executive Director Caleb Waters thinks Donna Meyers will still be a great asset to the conservation department.
“I’ve been in contact with her, so, she’s actually going to be volunteering to host in the Nature Center,” Waters said. “ … I think she’ll be a great asset.”
After more than a month searching for a new board member passionate about nature, Ackles will jump right into the position with the September Conservation Board meeting.
