MT. PLEASANT — The Henry County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a renewed 28E agreement Thursday with the New London School District to continue providing school resource officer (SRO) services for the upcoming academic year.
The agreement outlines that Henry County deputies will remain active on campus, offering law enforcement presence and student support throughout the school year. The updated contract sets the hourly reimbursement rate at $50.22, consistent with the previous rate.
Supervisor Steve Detrick confirmed that the board was in agreement on the amount, noting it aligned with what had been used in the past.
Minor corrections delayed the agreement’s approval, including date adjustments and clarification of billing procedures. Sheriff Rich McNamee addressed one of the key concerns raised earlier by the county treasurer — a lack of timely invoice sharing.
“She has the invoices now from last year’s contract,” McNamee said. “And moving forward, she’ll receive them monthly.”
The new contract will take effect July 1, 2025, and extend through June 30, 2026. McNamee asked on behalf of NLCSD that agreements for the school resource officer finalize earlier in the year moving forward.
“They’d like this wrapped up in the spring, before July 1,” McNamee told the board.
McNamee confirmed that his office will handle submitting the signed agreement to the state to complete the process. With all issues resolved, supervisors voiced their satisfaction with the partnership.
The agreement secures continued collaboration between Henry County and the New London School District, ensuring a consistent law enforcement presence to support safety and student well-being.
