MT. PLEASANT — With recent attempts to cut the budget throughout Henry County, the Board of Supervisors changed their meetings from every Tuesday and Thursday at 9 a.m. to only meeting Thursday mornings beginning this month.
As the Henry County Supervisors settle into their new rhythm of once a week meetings, they seek to ensure contact with the public doesn’t decrease, and one small group of citizens consistently attending meetings is more than happy to help.
“We didn’t meet Tuesday, but I still put as many hours in as if we did meet Tuesday,” Supervisor Chad White commented at a Thursday Board of Supervisor meeting this month.
“We want to make sure your public interaction time does not go down, so we’ll find other ways,” one Henry County resident lightheartedly commented to White.
“I still think it’s important that the public be able to reach out with issues and concerns so we can address those,” White stated after sharing a chuckle with the resident. “Whether it be in a public meeting or phone call.”
Another resident expressed his gratitude for the Henry County Board of Supervisors’ commitment to hearing from the public.
“We as electors, you should be accountable to us, which I might add, you are,” the resident said.
To reach the supervisors outside of the regularly scheduled 9 a.m. Thursday meetings, the public may email supervisors@henrycountyiowa.us or call their office at (319) 385-0759 Tuesdays and Thursdays between 9 a.m. and noon.
