MT. PLEASANT — The Domestic Violence Intervention Program (DVIP) will host a Shop for Safety event Oct. 26 from 4-7 p.m. at Mt. Pleasant Hy-Vee.
In the month of October DVIP puts forth extra effort in community involvement for Domestic Violence Awareness month.
“The theme for this year’s Domestic Violence Awareness Month is ‘inspiring safety in our communities,’” said Director of Community Engagement Alta Medea-Peters.
“For 43 years, DVIP has worked to eliminate violence in our communities,” she said. “Our DVAM activities this year will highlight our collaborations with community partners, volunteers, staff, and donors. We all work together to build a world free of intimate partner violence.”
DVIP volunteers and staff will be at Mt. Pleasant Hy-Vee to ask for donations for the organization’s most needed items like hygiene supplies, household cleaning supplies, and food.
According to DVIP, these supplies will serve over 900 individuals in DVIP’s rural areas.
“Donations are a crucial part of our work in helping victim-survivors,” said Medea-Peters. “Our clients often have to leave everything behind. The items purchased during Shop for Safety won’t just sit on a shelf. These goods are making a real difference in the lives of victim-survivors.”
