MT. PLEASANT — Local business, Traction Steam, expresses deep sadness at the news of Iowa Wesleyan closing on May 31.
As a business that supports a community of entrepreneurs, creatives, and remote workers at their co-workspace in downtown Mt. Pleasant, Traction Steam released a statement and offered support.
“As a community we have been given a chance to rally around those impacted by this incredibly hard decision, as our neighbors, family members and friends scramble to find ways to move forward,” a press release from Traction Steam said.
“This is not a time to opine on the reasons or point fingers. The leaders at Iowa Wesleyan are our neighbors and we know the love they have for our community,” it added. “This is, instead, a time of ACTION.”
Traction Steam’s action steps include offering resources to all staff and faculty of Iowa Wesleyan.
As some of these individuals seek employment that allows them to stay in the area through remote work, Traction Steam will offer those hired for remote jobs a free three-month membership.
Their baseline memberships include a space to work, high-speed internet, the ability to make copies, access to a conference room, and mailboxes.
Additionally, the business invites “those needing a space to review their resume or explore the possibility of starting a business” to utilize their co-working space Tuesdays 9 a.m.-4 p.m. when they open it for the community.
“Iowa Wesleyan staff and faculty have been critical to the health and vibrancy of our community. We will do what can to keep them here,” Traction Steam stated. “We invite our fellow businesses and community leaders to join us in this outreach to support our neighbors however they can.”
