MT. PLEASANT — A Mt. Pleasant man was cited after his vehicle left the roadway and overturned in a creek early Thursday morning, the Henry County Sheriff’s Office said.
Deputies responded at about 6:10 a.m. to a report of a single-vehicle crash near mile marker 39 on Highway 218. Authorities said a 2004 GMC Sierra driven by Landon Yocum of Mount Pleasant left the northbound lanes, struck a guardrail, entered the median and rolled before landing upside down in Big Creek.
Yocum was cited for failure to maintain control, according to the sheriff’s office.
The Iowa State Patrol, Iowa Department of Transportation and Department of Natural Resources assisted at the scene. The vehicle was later removed from the water.
A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
