Two arrested on burglary charges
Mt. Pleasant teen charged in multiple theft cases

MT. — Thursday, Sept. 5 at approximately 12:14 a.m. Mt. Pleasant Police Department responded to the Colonial Apartments for a report of two male subjects attempting to enter vehicles.
Officers located two male subjects nearby this location. The two male subjects were identified by the witness who reported the activity.
One make subject was identified as 18-year-old Mason McKenzie of Mt. Pleasant. The other male subject was a juvenile from Columbus Junction. McKenzie was arrested and transported to the Henry County Jail on an active warrant out of Burlington for Theft in the first degree. The juvenile was transported to the police department.
At the police department, the juvenile male destroyed department property estimated at approximately $600 and fought officers. He was then transported to Juvenile Detention in Montrose.
The juvenile was charged with three counts of Attempted Vehicle Burglary, Criminal Mischief in the fourth degree, and Interference with Official Acts causing bodily harm.
McKenzie was charged with three counts of Attempted Burglary in the third degree, Possession of Burglar Tools, and a citation for possession of tobacco products by a person under 21 years of age.
In connection with this incident the Mt. Pleasant Police Department conducted search warrant of McKenzie’s residence. According to a criminal complaint from Police Chief Lyle Murray, a key belonging to a four-wheeler stolen in May was found in a safe in the McKenzie’s bedroom during the execution of this search warrant.
With this discovery McKenzie was also charged with one count of Theft in the second degree.
