MT. PLEASANT — The new solid waste collection system began this month in Mt. Pleasant, and with that, the city has announced they will buy back unused trash stickers from the previous system.
Those interested in selling back their unused stickers can take them into city hall and receive a credit on their utility bill. When bringing stickers in for the buy back, customers should also bring their utilities account number.
Residents may want to retain some of these stickers, though, for spring clean up at the end of April as piles set out for clean up will require 10 stickers. Those needing additional stickers may purchase them at city hall.
According to an announcement from the City of Mt. Pleasant, the annual spring clean up “is a one-week opportunity for residents of Mt. Pleasant to rid their homes of those unusual or large items that are too big to fit into a garbage bag for your regular garbage collection day.”
Residents can rid themselves of these sorts of items by adhering 10 stickers to pile size limited to six feet wide by eight feet long and four feet tall. It is advised to place stickers no earlier than the morning of designated pickup to avoid scavengers taking the stickers with items.
Piles for spring clean up may not include any of the following items:
• Tires, Waste Oil, Batteries, Roof Shingles, Ashes
• Liquids, such as antifreeze, Household Chemicals and Wet Paint
• Construction materials of any kind such as drywall, wood, etc.
• Televisions and Computer Monitors
• Yard Waste
• Appliances
“Leave the lids off your paint cans,” the city’s announcement states. “If you have old paint cans and the paint is dry, we can take them. We cannot take wet paint of any kind. We can take all kinds of carpet. The carpet must be tightly rolled and tied to be collected.”
Customers are asked to not put items curbside until a week before spring clean up.
The spring clean up schedule will take place April 22-30 by WEGIMA WASTE based on residents’ regular trash pick up days as follows:
Lance Refuse trash pickup Wednesdays — Picked up Monday, April 22
Lance Refuse trash pickup Thursdays — Picked up Tuesday, April 23
(Makeup day scheduled for Friday, April 26)
WEMIGA trash pickup Wednesdays — Picked up on Monday, April 29
