SALEM — Henry County Sheriff’s Office responded to three reports of motor vehicle accidents over two days this week.
According to a press release from the Sheriff’s Office, Wednesday, Dec. 20 at approximately 12:31 p.m. they received reports of a two-vehicle collision in the 200 block of Main Street in Salem.
An investigation into the report determined a 2016 Chrysler Town & Country, driven by Mercedes Ellard, 31, of Fairfield, collided with a 2015 Chevrolet Equinox, driven by Michael Woll, 20, of Salem, when Woll’s vehicle failed to yield at a stop sign and drove out in front of Ellard, the Sheriff’s Office reported.
Woll’s vehicle was disable with $8,000 of damage and Ellard’s received an estimated $6,000 of damage.
Only one day earlier, the Sheriff’s Office received reports of a roll over collision just outside of Salem in the 3000 grid of Franklin Avenue.
Just after 12:20 p.m. Henry County dispatch contacted emergency personnel with reports from third party witnesses of a single vehicle collision.
“There is one female trapped, she is drifting in and out of consciousness,” dispatched informed Salem Fire and Rescue as they responded.
Upon Arrival, a member of Salem Fire and Rescue requested assistance.
“We need manpower,” he called on the radio. “We’ve got an entrapment.”
According to a press release from the Sheriff’s Office, Dawn Tomson, 54 of Salem, was traveling southbound on Franklin Avenue in a 2015 Chevrolet Equinox when the vehicle left the roadway, crossed over the northbound lane, and entered the east side ditch.
“The vehicle collided with the embankment of 300th Street and rolled onto its side,” the release states.
Tomson was removed from the vehicle by non-mechanical means and transported to an area hospital.
Damage to her vehicle was estimated at $10,000 and a total loss.
Henry County Sheriff’s Office and Salem Fire and Rescue were assisted by Iowa State Patrol Commercial Motor Vehicle Unit and the Henry County Health Center Ambulance.
Earlier that same day, in Salem, the Sheriff’s Office received a report of a hit and run collision in the 300 block of East Oak Street that occurred between 6-9 p.m. Monday, Dec. 18.
According to another press release, an investigation by the Sheriff’s Department found a legally parked 2010 Toyota Scion was struck and received damage to the driver’s side rear.
“During the investigation, a suspect vehicle was located,” the press release states. “The offending vehicle, a 2008 Hyundai Veracruz, was also located in the 300 block of East Oak Street. Owners of the vehicles were notified, and a collision report was issued to the involved parties.”
