Veterans to be honored in Henry County

MT. PLEASANT — With Veterans Day just around the corner on Monday, Nov. 11, Henry County schools, VFWs, and churches will gather in the next few days to honor veterans.
Winfield-Mt. Union schools will start the events Friday, Nov. 8 due to no school on Veterans Day. The school will come together to honor those who have served in an assembly beginning at 9 a.m. followed by light refreshments for any veteran and their families.
New London VFW Post 7641 and Auxiliary will host its annual Veterans Brunch on Sunday, Nov. 10 from 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Breakfast and lunch items will be offered for a free will donation.
Immediately following the brunch VFW Post 7641 and Auxiliary invites everyone to join in a Veterans Day Observance with guest speaker Steven Parker. The Post is located at 802 East McKinley, New London.
Mt. Pleasant Community High School will show their appreciation for veterans in the community with a its annual Veterans Day Breakfast Friday, Nov. 15 from 7-8 a.m. in the commons. Students and staff can sign up guests in the high school office. Those bringing guests are asked to provide a photo of their veteran to Hollie Ashton.
For Henry County veterans without a connection to the MPCHS, the Mt. Pleasant VFW encourages them to reach out and someone will assist them in getting signed up for the breakfast.
Hillsboro Christian Church will host their annual fall luncheon on Sunday, Nov. 17 at Hillsboro City Hall. All proceeds from this free will luncheon will be donated to the Veterans Freedom Center in Dubuque.
