MT. PLEASANT — With Midwest Old Threshers Reunion just around the corner at the end of the month Midwest Central Railroads offers an opportunity to volunteer as a conductor.
Midwest Old Threshers Reunion is known for old-timey fun, especially the train rides around the grounds complete with train robberies. Those interested in volunteering as conductors need not worry, though, no experience conducting or warding off bandits is required to participate in this age-old tradition.
Duties for train conductors include collecting tickets, greeting and assisting passengers, ensuring a safe ride, and sharing history and facts.
Those 16 years and older can apply to be full-fledged conductors and those 12 years and older are invited to participate as junior conductors on the Midwest Old Thresher rails.
According to Midwest Central Railroad, “Conductors are the faces of the Midwest Central Railroad and are essential to the operation.”
This volunteer opportunity is best suited for those that love railroad history, like to work with the public, and enjoy working with other volunteers.
The goal is for Midwest Central Railroad to obtain enough volunteers to cover 20 conductor slots per three-four-hour shift throughout the weekend. As of Wednesday, July 31, they still needed to fill approximately half those slots.
