WACO FFA is the future now

WAYLAND — The National FFA theme this past year was “Be what the future needs next.” That’s what WACO FFA has tried to do over the last year. WACO FFA members have been busy this past year in events, contests, and various activities to develop their leadership skills to be the best future version of themselves.
The chapter is proud to report that we have 90 members on the roster this year! Last fall members participated in our annual fruit sales contest, traveled to the National FFA Convention, and held some local chapter events.
Second semester has brought a change of classes for members to enroll in within our program. Current class offerings include Large Animal Science, Introduction to Agriculture, Agricultural Mechanics, Landscaping and Greenhouse Management, and an eighth grade exploratory.
These classes work to highlight current agricultural practices in various industries, push students to think critically about ways to make them better and prepare students for a career in agriculture.
Spring is also the busiest time of year for our FFA involvement. Members will be competing at subdistrict contests in February, district convention in March, and the state leadership conference in April.
One exciting accomplishment from the spring so far is that the first three members from the WACO FFA Chapter have received their Iowa Degrees. This is an honor that less than 1% of Iowa FFA members achieve.
Lastly, FFA members will be very busy this summer participating in county and state fairs. One of the program highlights is raising Mini Rex rabbits that members exhibit at the fairs.
The officer team would like to thank every individual and organization that has had a positive impact on our chapter in the past year. Your support is greatly appreciated and has contributed to our success in the last three years as a new chapter.
