WAYLAND — WACO Warriors prepare for the big homecoming game this Friday, Sept. 22 against Easton Valley with a week full of activities to bolster school spirit.
Last Wednesday, WACO Junior/Senior High School announced the 2023 homecoming court consisting of Reece Oswald, Chase Waterhouse, Colton Leichty, Halle Shelman, Haley Hughes, and Marie Farmer.
High school students will vote for their favorite homecoming court candidates Wednesday, Sept. 20 and the king and queen will be crowned during Boom Night later that day at the high school’s Bob Hilmer Court.
Boom Night will begin at 7 p.m. with a pep rally followed by coronation, Boom-Boom Volleyball, and Powder Puff Football.
Leading up to continuing through Boom Night, WACO schools will build school spirit with high school and elementary dress up days.
“Bring your Barbie/Ken energy and wear PINK to school Monday,” a poster for high school spirit days reads.
Tuesday high school students will dress to the theme of “BBQ Dads vs Soccer Moms.” Wednesday they will sport their favorite sports team apparel.
Thursday’s dress up day is “Words that Rhyme” such as cat and hat. “Earn extra points for having more rhyme combos in your group,” the poster encourages.
Elementary students will participate in different dress up days.
These younger WACO Warriors will wear red, white and blue for “Proud to be an American” day Monday.
They will then celebrate with “Tie Dye Tuesday,” and “Wacky Wednesday.” Thursday they are invited to dress in comfy clothes or pajamas and bring a stuffed animal for “Come as You Are” day.
All WACO Warriors are encouraged to show their WACO spirit Friday by sporting their WACO colors and gear.
At 4:30 those spirits will continue to rise as the homecoming parade takes off on Main Street followed by a junior high football gave against Easton Valley at 5 p.m. and the big varsity game beginning at 7 p.m.
Students hope to wrap the exciting week celebrating a win at the homecoming dance following the game from 9-11:30 p.m.
