WAYLAND — WACO High School started this week with enthusiasm as they kicked off homecoming celebrations with dress up days and a full schedule of activities leading up to the big game against Winfield-Mt. Union this Friday, Sept. 13.
Monday, Sept. 9, WACO students arrived at school for Beach Day following high school classes starting work on homecoming floats and practices for Powder Puff Football and Boom Boom Volleyball over the weekend. Junior High students at WACO also began decorating sidewalks Monday during their Brain Break time.
Tuesday, students will continue building the excitement for homecoming by dressing like a teacher followed by a County versus Country Club dress up day Wednesday.
Energy will surge as WACO students and the community pile into the main gym for Boom Night Wednesday at 7 p.m. Boom Night will include the coronation ceremony of homecoming king and queen from the 2024 Homecoming Court. This year’s queen candidates include Ella Huisenga, daughter of Bill and Joni Huisenga; Ally Rinner, daughter of Rachel Rinner and Troy Rinner; and Elyssa Graber, daughter of Troy and Cassie Graber. The 2024 king candidates include Isaac Rich, son of Neil and Kori Rich; Louden Huisenga, son of Bill and Joni Huisenga; and Joel Meyer, son of Jay and Rachel Meyer.
Following the coronation the WACO boys will show off their Boom Boom Volleyball skills before the girls take to the football field for their Powder Puff game.
Returning to school Thursday, WACO High School halls will feature individuals dressed for Throwback Thursday showing off their best decade looks. The next day WACO supporters will show off their best WACO spirit wearing WACO gear.
Friday, homecoming parade floats and participants will line up on the street adjacent to the south side of Bomber Field at 4 p.m. The parade featuring high school student floats, police, the homecoming court, and teams on firetrucks will begin at 4:30 p.m. as a last chance to raise school spirit before the 7 p.m. varsity football game against Winfield-Mt. Union.
After hopefully earning a victory in their homecoming game, WACO Warriors will dance the night away Saturday, Sept. 14 from 8:30-10:30 p.m. in the high school cafeteria. Homecoming dance guest registrations forms are due to the office by noon Friday, Sept. 13.
WACO Elementary students also will enjoy this week with dress up days including “Come As You Are” on Monday, “Twin Day” on Tuesday, “Wacky Wednesday,” “Class Color Day” on Thursday, and “WACO Spirit Day” Friday.
