WAPELLO — A 4-year-old girl suffered serious injuries Saturday evening after a driver hit her in an alley off Jefferson Street, according to first responders and an Iowa State Patrol report.
Emergency crews responded at about 6:25 p.m. Shortly after the initial call came in, dispatch requested Medforce for “a child that’s torso has been run over.” Wapello Fire and Wapello Ambulance headed to the 400 block of Jefferson Street for what dispatchers described as “a female hit by a car.”
According to the Iowa State Patrol crash report, Katelin Marie Lilly, 29, of Wapello, turned into the alleyway west of 408 Jefferson Street and struck the 4-year-old female with the front passenger tire of a 2018 Kia Sorento.
Lilly then “reversed after striking the child and came to rest in the alley,” the report states.
Air Care flew the child to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Authorities did not release her name, and no updates were available on her condition as of Monday, Nov. 18.
