NEW LONDON — A large portion of New London was without water Tuesday, Nov. 15 due to a water valve breaking.
“The valve was being exercised for an upcoming project to check that it was working, and it broke in the process, so they are replacing that valve today [Tuesday],” New London City Employee Kasi Howard said.
According to an announcement from the city on Facebook, the following area were without water a majority of the day for the replacement:
200 Block W. Garfield St.
200 Block W. Jackson St.
100 Block S. Maple St. (east side only)
100 Block N. Maple St. (east side only)
200 Block W. Monroe St.
200-500 Blocks S. Walnut St., excluding the high school and New London Community Child Care Center
West side of the 100 Block S. Walnut St.
West side of the 100 Block N. Walnut St.
200-300 Blocks of W. Wilson St.
Because this valve was attached to the water main that feeds Clark Elementary, classes for Tuesday, Nov. 15 were canceled.
According to New London Community School District’s announcement, “This not only affects all of our students and staff in the Elementary, but it also affects the Kitchens and the ability to make meals to serve.”
“We apologize for the inconvenience, but unfortunately this is the only way to handle the situation,” the announcement said. “We will be back in session on Wednesday!”
