WAYLAND — The annual Main Street Greet and Treat in Wayland attracted crowds of ghouls and goblins, Thursday.
Halloween themed music such as “Werewolves of London” played as Wayland City Hall representatives handed out candy bags to start the evening.
Trick-or-Treaters lined up along Main Street and gathered treats as they chatted with local businesses and played games.
The Corner of Main Bar and Grill provided walking tacos, Ashley’s Grooming and Boarding allowed children to pet hamsters, and McCoy’s encouraged children to try their hand at a potty toss game.
Most businesses were already well-known in the community, but an up-and-coming ice cream shop took the Great and Treat as an opportunity to introduce themselves.
Despite the chill setting in as the sun disappeared from the sky, the crowds appeared to enjoy the ice-cream samples handed out by Uptown Ice Cream.
Angela and Jared Widmer are partnering with Michael and Laurel Swartzendruber to open the ice-cream shop this summer.
“We just wanted to do something to benefit the community and give people a place to hang out and be together,” Angela Widmer said.
In addition to local business participation, the Wayland Fire Department greet excited, costumed children that gathered at the park and waited for a turn taking a ride around town on the firetruck.
