WAYLAND — As thousands of bicyclists make their way across the state of Iowa for the 51st annual RAGBRAI ride this July, they will pass through Wayland Friday, July 26.
While Wayland will only serve as a pass-thru town, the RAGBRAI committee invites the riders to “Pedal to Our Porch,” as they make plans with a variety of volunteers to provide food, drinks, and entertainment celebrating RAGBRAI’s sixth day.
Around the lunch hour riders making their way from Ottumwa to Mt. Pleasant will ride through Wayland. While the community is only a pass-thru town, Wayland will likely catch the attention of many riders as they will have the option to make a Century Ride via the Karras Loop, but other plans by the community may entice riders to stop for a breather.
Thus far plans for RAGBRAI in this pass-thru town include a performance from The Boys, a local country group. Additionally, Eichelberger Farms and Achen Farms have teamed up with the Washington Pork Producers to dish up pork burgers and turkey tenderloins Friday afternoon in Wayland.
As excitement builds for the big day next month, shirts with the Wayland RAGBRAI slogan “Pedal to Our Porch,” with a design by Drew Kissell will be on sale until June 14. To place an order stop by Wayland City Hall or check out the Wayland Welcomes RAGBRAI Facebook group for additional information.
Even with many plans already in place and the vendor application deadline passed, there still is much work to be done in anticipation of RAGBRAI. Those interested in more information or assisting with RAGBRAI activities in Wayland July 26 can attend a meeting June 11 from 6-7 p.m. at Wayland City Hall.
