WAYLAND — Brothers Dean and Nolan Rose raised over $100 in donations for Paws & More Animal Shelter from a Fourth of July lemonade stand.
“We wanted to do the lemonade stand so Paws could help get the kitties food, water, toys, and cat littler so they could keep living there until they get a home,” 10-year-old Dean shared.
Dean’s 9-year-old brother Nolan added that he wanted to donate to Paws & More so they kitties would have cat trees.
While Dean says he likes cats and dogs equally, Nolan says he prefers cats like their pet Kitty Bear.
With the help of their mother, Samantha Rose, the boys made lemonade in extra large orange cooler jugs, put together signs, and set up shop during Wayland’s Fourth of July parade, Tuesday.
They kept cool under a canopy as they enjoyed a few samples of the lemonade themselves, because as Nolan said, “It was hot.”
According to Nolan, they sold the lemonade for $1 a cup, but Dean clarified that they happily accepted whatever donations people wanted to make.
The boys enjoyed raising money for a cause they felt passionate about and Dean said his favorite part was simply, “talking to the people.”
According to Samantha, the brother duo earned $128 in cash donations in addition to a few virtual donations.
When Samantha posted about the boys’ lemonade stand on Facebook friends from further away supported the idea by asking to buy virtual glasses of lemonade to donate.
The family plans to make their donations to Paws & More over the weekend following the Fourth of July festivities.
According to the Paws & More Facebook page, the animal shelter plans to host a kitten shower next weekend, July 15.
“So, if anyone wants to go check out kittens July 15 is a good day to head over and see them,” Samantha added.
“Our shelter will be decorated, we’ll have shower-themed treats, and kittens of all ages, looks, and little purr-sonalities will be ready for cuddling!” the organization posted on Facebook.
This Kitten Shower also will include waived adoption fees with approved applications, “ … but donations for their care are encouraged!”
Monetary donations will be used for vet services, Miracle Nipple nipples and bottles, canned kitten and cat food, cat nip, baby blankets, and cat toys.
