MT. PLEASANT — As the risk of sever weather began to roll in, so did announcements of early school dismissals, postponed activities, and businesses closing early.
New London did see a bit of hail in during the storm, and at lease one mobile home experienced some minimal damage.
In keeping with small town kindness, though, New London residents ensured they cared for one another.
One way they showed this happened through the HJ Nugen Public Library’s commitment to staying open during the storms.
Despite the hail and some water in the entry of the library, they invited anyone in the community that needed a safe space to ride out the storm in their basement.
“We would just like to remind you all, while we are open and the weather is bad and you feel like you need a basement, you may come here,” they posted on their social media accounts. “Stay safe out there today! And if you’re here and it’s closing time and weather is too severe to leave, we will stay until it is safer.”
While the Mt. Pleasant area, overall, came out of the severe weather without much damage, several events from the weekend will now take place at a later date.
The Mt. Pleasant Community Easter Egg Hunt will now take place April 8 at 10 a.m.
“Due to potential severe weather today Little Artist is canceled,” Mt. Pleasant Parks and Rec announced. “Our makeup day will be Friday, April 14 from 4-4:45.”
All the local schools dismissed classes early to ensure students made it home safely before the storms came rolling in.
The Mt. Pleasant Middle School’s dance is rescheduled for Friday, April 21.
The soccer game between Mt. Pleasant High School and Central Lee will now occur April 21.
Winfield-Mt. Union school Dance Team decided to postpone their spring showcase until April 7 at 6:30 p.m.
“We hope to see everyone NEXT Friday night and pray that everyone stays safe tonight,” the dance team shared on social media.
Unfortunately, the weather also caused WMU to cancel he third-fifth grade field trip scheduled for March 31.
