Mayoral Candidate Forum
The Mt. Pleasant Area Chamber Alliance Government Relations Committee invite all members of the chamber to attend a City of Mt. Pleasant Mayor Candidate Forum Thursday, Oct. 16 at 5:30 p.m. in the Civic Center Meeting Room located above the Mt. Pleasant Public library.

Ghosts and Witches of Henry County
Saturday, Oct. 18 at 2 p.m. hear about strange happenings at the Garretson Farm, in the Harlan-Lincoln House and at Mt. Pleasant’s Mental Health Institute. Learn about the Witch of Merrimac. Prepare to be spooked during this unique event at H entry County Heritage Center Museum on West Madison Street in Mt. Pleasant.
MPCSD Vocal Music Concert
Mt. Pleasant Community School District vocal music department will present a choral concert at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 19 at the Chapel Auditorium. Students from sixth grade through high school will perform.
Sunrise Terrace Care Center Celebrates 50th Anniversary
Sunday, Oct. 19 from 2-4 p.m. Sunrise Terrace Nursing and Rehabilitation Center welcomes the public to an open house to celebrate 50 years.
The afternoon will include live music from Aaron Lotzow, hors d’oeurves, tours of the facility updates and door prizes. Enjoy the day reminiscing with past and present residents, families, staff and community members as Sunrise Terrace celebrates this milestone.
MPCSD All Bands Night
Mt. Pleasant Community School District music Department presents an All Bands Night at Mapleleaf Athletic Complex Monday, Oct. 20 beginning at 7 p.m. The evening will include music from the fifth, sixth, seventh/eighth and High School Panther Marching Bands will perform.
Fraud and Scammers Education Seminar
The 20th Center Car Club of Mt. Pleasant is hosting the Iowa Department of Insurance and Financial Services for a free fraud and scammers seminar at the Mt. Pleasant Veterans Hall, Tuesday, Oct. 21 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. the program is open to the public and includes information on common scam tactics, tips for preventing fraud, and details on how to report.
Historic Voices: Mary Todd Lincoln
Harlan-Lincoln House will host Laura Keyes of Historic Voices as she portrays Mary Todd Lincoln preparing to accompany her husband to the theatre on that fateful April 14, 1865 evening. This is a free event, but donations are welcome.
See Keyes in action Thursday, Oct. 23 beginning at 7 p.m. at the Union Block Building in downtown Mt. Pleasant.
Looking ahead to area Halloween events
Witch Way to Main
Main Street Mt. Pleasant will host the family-friendly annual Witch Way to Main trick-or-treat event in downtown Mt. Pleasant Thursday, Oct. 23 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Thanks to the participation of over 40 businesses, Witch Way to Main will feature games, activities, candy and lots of Halloween fun. Put on your costumes and make your way around downtown for fun and festivities for all ages.
Greet and Treat
Visit Main Street in Wayland for Greet and Treat Thursday, Oct. 23 from 5-6:30 p.m. Thanks Wayland and surrounding community businesses this annual event continues to grow and offers a fun Halloween activity for many. Treaters should dress for fall or put on a costume as they get ready for a fun time.
The line to begin Greeting and Treating will start on the west side of city hall at the stop sign n the corner of Jefferson and Main. At this place treaters will collect a goody bag provided by the city before setting out to visit all the participating businesses’ set ups.
Business greeters can simply show up or go all out with tables, vehicle trunk or tailgates or grand displays for this event. Goodies can be business related or simply yummy. Businesses should enter from the east side of Main and Washington streets and can begin setting up anytime after 2 p.m. the day of the event. Call Wayland City Hall to confirm a spot and display location.
Walmart Trunk or Treat
The Walmart Distribution Center in Mt. Pleasant will host a Trunk or Treat from 4-7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 25 at 1501 East Mapleleaf Drive.
Fall Fest Trunk or Treat
Fern Cliff Evangelical Free Church in Wayland will host an afternoon of fun Saturday, Oct. 26 beginning at 1 p.m. The afternoon will include trunk or treating, activities, hot dogs (or chili dogs) and hot chocolate free of charge.
First United Methodist Church Trunk or Treat
Wednesday, Oct. 29 from 5:30-7 p.m. First United Methodist Church welcomes the community to the church parking lot for a trunk or treat event.
Trenton Trick-or-treat
Stop by the shelter house at Trenton park for a free meal of hot dogs, chips and drink Thursday, Oct. 30 from 5-7 p.m. then get your trick-or-treat on.
V.F.W. Auxiliary Trunk or Treat
The New London V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary will host a trunk or treat Friday, Oct. 31 at City Park from 5-7 p.m. New London Lions will provide hot dogs starting at 5 p.m.
Annual Weiner Roast
On the Corner of East Pine and South Locust the annual Weiner roast in Winfield will last from 4:30-6 p.m. with trick-or-treating to follow from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31
Winfield Lions Club Costume Contest
Beginning with registration at 4:45 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 31 the Winfield Lions Club will host its annual halloween costume contest with five categories, ages 0-5, ages 6-10, ages 11-18, adults, and themed groups of two or more.
Cash prizes will be awarded to winners. Show up with your best costume next to the Winfield Weenie Roast near Pilot Grove Savings Bank on time to participate. No late entries will be permitted.
Citywide Trick-or-treat
Mt. Pleasant will run from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 31
Salem will run from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 31
Wayland will run from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 31
