WINFIELD — First Presbyterian Church of Winfield marked 169 years of continuous ministry this week, commemorating more than a century and a half faith, fellowship, and community involvement.
Founded in 1856, the church has been a consistent presence in Winfield, serving not only as a place of worship but as a partner in addressing local needs. Today, the congregation gathers at 302 S. Locust Street and remains active in community life through outreach, service, and collaboration.
First Presbyterian works alongside other local churches through the Winfield Area Grateful Gathering, known as WAGG. Together, the churches coordinate events such as ecumenical services, holiday programs, and drives to support families in need. This partnership reflects a shared commitment to serving the community beyond denominational lines.
In recent years, the church has continued to respond to both local and global issues, from organizing prayer gatherings to participating in broader awareness campaigns. While traditions remain important, much of the church’s current focus is on being responsive and engaged with the present-day needs of Winfield and the surrounding area.
As it celebrates 169 years, First Presbyterian Church looks ahead while continuing to build on its long-standing mission of faith and service in southeast Iowa. Sunday services are held weekly with coffee fellowship at 10 a.m. and worship at 10:30 a.m., and the congregation welcomes all who wish to join
