WINFIELD — The Winfield Food Pantry welcomed “a great turn out” to their open house celebrating their move into their new location at the old Beacon newspaper office, and express gratitude for the continued support of the community.
As the Food Pantry Board celebrated the long-awaited move, they made sure to thank the community for their support which played a crucial role in this new chapter for the organization.
While the food pantry may now reside in a different location, the support of the community hasn’t missed a beat as the Winfield Post Office is now participating in the nationwide “Stamp Out Hunger” food drive.
According to the National Association of Letter Carriers, “Each year, letter carriers across the country head out on their routes on the second Saturday in May to collect donations of non-perishable food items to benefit local food pantries,” as part of their Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive, and the Winfield Post Office is joining in.
“To participate, customers are encouraged to fill a bag with healthful, non-perishable food items and place it by their mailbox for mail carriers to pick up or drop it by the post office during the week leading up to Saturday, May 11,” a notice from the Winfield Post Office states.
Winfield Food Pantry will receive the donations from the campaign as one more way the tight-knit community supports one another.
