WINFIELD — Winfield-Mount Union High School girls basketball coach Mitch Wachs picked up a milestone win Friday, reaching his 400th career victory as the Wolves coach defeating Wapello 70-24.
This honor is just another notch on Wachs’ list of achievements.
In the spring, he was named the Class 1A Southeast Region Coach of the Year by the Iowa Girls Coaches Association, after leading W-MU to an 18-1 record during the 2020-21 season, including an undefeated regular season.
Back in 2018, Wachs was dedicated by being selected to the Iowa Girls Coaches Association Basketball Coaches and Officials Hall of Fame.
During his 30 year tenure he has been a part of four state tournament teams, including back to back state championships in the 1995 and 1996 season, a semifinal appearance in 1997 and runner-up in 1998.
Wachs moved on from win 400 less than 24 hours after achieving it, picking up win 401 on Saturday in a Southeast Iowa Super Conference matchup against WACO, 52-25.
There are many more win to come for Wachs and the Wolves.
