MT. UNION — A Winfield woman was arrested and charged with Operating While Under the Influence during a traffic stop for speeding Friday, March 1.
According to the criminal complaint filed with Iowa Courts, just before 11 p.m. March 1 Henry County Deputy Logan Bass pulled over Barbara Damerval, 61 of Winfield, after observing her Chevy Cruze traveling above the posted speed limit.
“A traffic stop was initiated on the motor vehicle,” Bass states in the document. “The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle was identified as the above defendant, Barbara Damerval. I observed Barbara to have slurred speech, bloodshot watery eyes, and an odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from her breath/person.”
Bass states that Damerval admitted to consuming two beers prior to the traffic stop and he then conducted Standardized Field Sobriety Testing (SFST) including Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN), Walk and Turn (WAT), and One Leg Stand (OLS) tests. He reports indicators or clues of impairment showed in all tests.
“A Preliminary Breath Test (PBT) was administered and performed by Barbara, this indicated a result greater than .08 BAC,” Bass reported. “Additional testing was later administered to Barbara at the Henry County Sheriff's Office. When requested Barbara supplied a sufficient sample of breath through the Data Master device, indicating a result of .095 BAC.”
Damerval was charged and taken into custody as a result of these tests.
