WINFIELD — A fiery crash claimed the life of a Winfield woman shortly after midnight, Saturday, Feb. 8.
According to a report from the Iowa State Patrol, Michelle Moore, 53 of Winfield, was traveling eastbound on Iowa Highway 78 in her 2015 RAM pickup truck at approximately 12:40 a.m. when, for an unknown reason, her vehicle left the roadway. The pickup came to rest near the intersection of Highway 78 and Marsh Avenue, west of Winfield, where it then caught on fire.
Henry County Sheriff’s Office and Winfield Fire and Rescue assisted with this accident which reportedly shut down the roadway to traffic until after 5 a.m.
Michelle “Shelly” Moore was a longtime resident of the area, and many have already expressed their condolences via social media. She grew up in Brighton and graduated from Washington High School only a short distance from her last residence which she recently purchased in Winfield.
Moore leaves behind her mother, two sons and daughters-in-law, three grandchildren, brother and two nieces along with numerous friends and patients.
After attending school at Indian Hills Community College and becoming a registered nurse, Moore spent many years caring for the aging members of her community in Winfield at Sunrise Terrace then Parkview Nursing Home in Wayland.
While the Iowa State Patrol Accident Report states that Moore was 50, an obituary later clarified that she was actually 53 years old.
