MT. PLEASANT — Two Winfield-Mt. Union students made their names known in the Henry County Fair Swine shows this year.
Incoming WMU Junior Grant Anderson walked away from the 2024 Henry County Fair with Grand Champion Market Hog, Grand Champion Breeding Gilt, and third Overall Market Hog.
Anderson is not new to this level of success at the Henry County Fair. Last year he earned Reserve Grand Champion Market Swine, third Overall Market Swine, fourth Overall Breeding, Reserve Champion Market Barrow, and Champion Market Gilt. In 2022 he walked away from the fair with four swine titles and the year before that he also snagged the Grand Champion Market Swine title.
While Anderson works with a variety of animals, his heart remains with swine because he likes the freedom to show them how he most prefers.
Additionally, incoming WMU eighth grade student Lydia Meeker revealed nothing could keep her from giving her all showing swine at the fair. Despite one arm wrapped in a blue cast and the other in a black brace, Meeker’s swine showmanship was readily apparent to judges. Proving she has the chops at the Henry County Fair, Anderson earned Champion Intermediate Showmanship.
Meeker also earned first in class for Commercial Gilt and Market Barrow, third Overall Breeding, and fourth Overall Market.
Other WMU and Crooked Creek FFA students also came away from the Henry County Fair as Swine winners.
Kaelyn Townsley snagged second place Commercial Gilt behind Meeker, and third place Market Barrow in the same class.
Katie Miller earned fifth place in Commercial Gilt Class 2.
Carter Loyd took second place in Commercial Gilt Class 2, fourth place Overall Breeding, third and fourth Market Barrow Class 2, and ninth place Rate of Gain.
Eli Miller walked out of the fair with first place Commercial Gilt Class 3, Reserve Champion Breeding Gilt, fifth Market Barrow Class 1, first place Market Barrow Class 3, Reserve Champion Market Barrow, Reserve Grand Champion Market Swine, Reserve Senior Showmanship, and sixth place Rate of Gain.
Kurt Beard earned first place Market Gilt Class 3.
Justin Knipfer got second place Market Barrow Class 2 and seventh place Rate of Gain.
