2024 Geode Challenge Race to be held Oct. 19

The Friends of Geode with the sponsorship of the Danville Lions Club are again off the Geode Challenge Race. Kathi Myers is the even coordinator and deserves every accolade possible for a great job. For those waiting to see about the weather, come to the Beach Shelter at Geode State Park. One can still register Saturday morning beginning at 7:30 a.m. Registration is $35 for the 5K, $40 for the 12K and $45 for the 25K. A $15 discount is offered for kids 15 and under for any of the distances.
There is a First Place Male and Female award in each distance.
This event is dog friendly! If you are running with your dog, please keep the leash short enough to ensure all runners are safe. There is a lot of single person pathways on the trail.
October 19 is expected to be sunny with temperatures in the high 70s-low 80s. A cold front is expected to move in late Saturday. The trails are beautiful and the Fall colors are reaching their peak in some spots. A cold front is expected to move in late Saturday or early Sunday.
Run or walk the 5k from the beach area to the Shelter 1 area and back. The 12K course loops the perimeter of the lake. The 25K loops the lake twice and is a real challenge. It is a great family opportunity. You can create your own challenge. One group has decided to do a 12k Ruck Run. Friends of Geode will be at stations around the lake so that no runner is left behind. Two aid stations set up on the course, as well as water at the start/finish area at the beach. Shelter 4 and shelter 1 will have a few light snacks and water. The goal is safe fun for all.
The race began in 2018 as a fundraiser for renovating the Concession House at Geode State Park. Work is actively underway and showing great progress. Friends of Geode are working on several projects to improve the entire park. All proceeds go to these projects. Come out and cheer on the runners! Support the lake and park and the Friends. Say thank you to our park rangers and the New London Fire Department for being on hand “just in case”. First and foremost, enjoy the event and have fun!!
