January
- Jason Wagner, a New London native, is named to the Hy-Vee Hall of Fame.
- Seven-year old Jackson Blow-Smith races in the 25th KTM Jr. Supercross in California.
- NL Tiger Shooting sports prepares for a second season.
- NLHS will send five groups to the state speech contest.
- New London students Carleen Zaragoza, Tray Schuster, Josiah Denney, and Colin Pealer will attend the UNI Northern Festival of Bands.
- NLCSD explores the four-day school week.
- Lavelle Hibbs passed away on Jan. 28. He was 94.
February
- JH boys basketball started their season. The eighth grade beat Mediapolis 33-25. Gavin Strawhacker had 10 points. The seventh grade lost 22-20. Kellan Porter had 30 points.
- Friends of Geode held their first group planning meeting.
- Tiger supporters held a basketball youth night that was well-attended.
- 100 days of school “finally” completed on Feb. 6.
- Gage Burden qualified for the state wrestling tournament at 126 lbs.
- Lynn Riley passed away on Feb. 14. She was 65.
- Mark Chiri, longtime NLHS wrestling coach, was inducted into the Wrestling Hall of Fame surrounded by his family.
- Former New London and Iowa University basketball player Dianne Wilson talks about the evolution of women’s basketball.
- Mylee Miller was named to the SEISC all-conference second team and Morgan Jones and Sophie Malott earned honorable mention.
March
- The Masqued Tigers presented the play “Goosebumps.”
- NLHS technical writing class wrote a successful grant to help the Tiger Food Pantry. The students involved were Jason Kruse, Abigail Denney, Dillon Coffin, Colbie Nealey, and Destry Farris.
- Area basketball all-stars participated in the SEISC All-Star Game.
- An Easter egg hunt was held at the New London Specialty Care.
- The school board made the SRO position full-time.
- Senior Spotlights this week: Michael Raines, Sophie Malott, and Josiah Denney.
- Jane Alden turned 90 on March 26.
April
- The Dollars for Scholars Auction was held. The auction raised $27,782.
- The National Honor Society inducted new members. The new members are Coen Fitzpatrick, Jayden Bergman, Megan Lee, Zoe Long, and Lily Syfert.
- Barb Carmon celebrated her 90th birthday on April 13.
- This month’s Senior Spotlights feature Brendan Richey, Coen Fitzpatrick, Averie Senn, Adam Allen, Taylor Phillips, and Lanie Szewczyk.
- “Black and Gold Forever” is this year’s prom theme.
- The community bands together to clean up from the April 16 tornado. Hard hit was Burge Cemetery.
- Veteran Wayne Long received a Quilt of Honor on April 19.
- Brian David Gibson passed away on April 15. He was a 1978 NLHS graduate and the son of longtime NL teacher and coach Dave Gibson.
- New London’s Lexi Brown received individual and team recognition from the Track & Field and Cross-country Coaches Association. She was named an All-Academic Athlete for NCAA Division III cross-country season.
May
- Community Day has the NL students and staff out in force.
- The second grade visited the Dover Museum.
- This month’s Senior Spotlights: Madison Boyle, Sydney Lipper, Isabelle Nye, Kaiden Holtkamp, Paige Lunsford, Aiden Borton, Drake Hummell, Emma Henry, Griffin Swanson, Aydan Nedela, Sydney Johnson, Miah Phillips, Holland White, and Lynnae Huston.
- JH Boys win their home track meet.
- Dover Historical Society opens 2024 viewing season.
- David and Denise Bell will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on May 11. Mrs. Bell is the former Denise Brinkmeyer.
- The sixth grade class enjoyed a long-held tradition of attending the sixth grade campout and all the activities provided.
- JH boys and girls track crown six conference champions.
- Brigham Porter and London Franklin qualified for the state track meet.
- May 19 was graduation day for the 27-members of the Class of 2024.
- New London girls golf team is headed to the state meet.
- The VFW Post 7641 observed Memorial Day at the Veterans’ Memorial.
- Taylor Phillips wins state girls’ golf title.
- Cater Allen competes in track and field events representing Loras College. He was also named to second team All-American honors.
- Jan Crabill passed away on May 22. She was 87.
June
- School wrapped up with fun events at Clark.
- Eighth Grade promotion was held the last day of school. Forty-four students were promoted. Seventh-grader Kellan Porter was the spoon recipient for “best mixer” as voted on by the eighth grade. This tradition started in the '60s.
- Wendel Luko passed away on June 4. He was 67.
- Tiger baseball and softball is in full swing.
- Burge Cemetery has been reborn after a tornado damaged many headstones, the shed, and equipment in April. It looks amazing!
- The Henry County ISU Extension and Outreach program visited the Nugen Library on June 18. Many children had fun with the cardboard construction program challenge.
