· Field trip to Dover gives students a taste of the olden days.
· The Journal catches up with Joyce Larmore as she returns to New London.
· The obituaries this month: Brian A. Walters. Christopher L. Chrisman, Ruth L. Reif, and John Ollis Miller.
· The Lady Tigers got a softball win against Danville 7-6.
· The Dover Museum has purchased the museum’s “twin building” making way for much-needed westward expansion.
· Tom Ritchey remembers the old locker plant and his youthful employment.
· VFW Post Auxiliary organized a July Fourth parade.
· H. J. Nugen library held first Nerf wars.
· Mila Howard assisted in the restoration of gravestones moved or broken by the tornado on April 16.
· The Henry County fair is recapped.
· Mark and Tiffany Hauptman gave a view of the Civil War as was told to her by her great, great grandfather. The Hauptmans presented this at the Dover Museum.
August
· The New London Specialty Care turns 50.
· Obituaries this month: Sharrorn Ann Lox, Marianne Williams, Edward Charles Bannister, and Mary L. Ping.
· Jayden Flowers was conference co-coach of the year.
· The baseball team had three named to All-Hawkeye: Memphis Watson, Gavin Strawhacker, and Tate Welcher.
· Waterpalooza helps New London beat the heat.
· Dave Smith presented a history of Geode State Park @ Dover.
· “Meet the Teacher” draws many to Clark.
· New London FB Squad has only 16 boys out.
Sept.
· Shayla Seils has been hired by the NLCSD as the new Ag/FFA instructor.
· Obituary this month: Dennis D. DeKraai.
· Janae Lemley is the new school business official at NLCSD.
· Carol Linkin will celebrate her 80th birthday on Sept. 14th.
· The senior football “men“ posed for pictures at “Meet the Players” night. They were Carter Adams, Nic Loyd, London and Logan Franklin, Paxton Lindsey, Cale Westerbeck, and Brigham Porter.
· New teachers at Clark: Riley Hoop and Hayley James.
· Volleyball started. The Tigers took it. on the chin losing 25-20, 25-15, and 25-12 to Danville.
Oct.
· It is Homecoming time!!! The following seniors were chosen as Homecoming royalty. They are Brigham Porter, Cale Westerbeck, Logan Franklin, London
Franklin, Zeke Lemley, Zoe Long, Katelyn Allen, Molly Proost, Kennedy Herrick, and Colbie Nealey.
· Where have all the football players gone? Tigers end their season as low numbers and injuries force the cancellation of the 2025 season. New London has played football since 1915.
· Homecoming festivities went on as planned.
· Zeke Lemley was crowned Homecoming King and Zoe Long was crowned Homecoming Queen.
· The obituaries this month: Alta Louise Garrels Dockendorff, Joyce Elaine (Bauer) Gilleard, Laura Lee Ward, Karen Sue (Angtead) Brown, William (Sam) Wellington, and Ruth Mae Piper.
· The school board election is fast approaching. Jessica Boyer, Kyle Helmerson, and Josh Housman are running for the two available seats. Helmerson is seeking re-election while Boyer and Housman will be after the one remaining seat.
· Grow and Grow Preschool loved their visit to the New London Fire station.
· The City Council has three seats open. Running for re-election are Dan Berner, Scott Campbell, and Brad Helmerson. The new candidate is John Doyle.
· Burge Cemetery is sporting two new signs.
Nov.
· Former doctors were high lighted in the New London story titled “The Three Drs. Mehler.”
· Results from the election: Returned to the school board is Kyle Helmerson and taking her place on the board is Jessica Boyer. The voters returned the city council incumbents-Berner, Helmerson, and Campbell.
· The Veterans Day remembrance and celebration was held at the Charles Lorber gymnasium. With K-12 students and teachers in attendance, the speaker, SFC Kyle D. Green, told the attendees about his time in the military and his experiences as an Iowa National Guard recruiter.
· The New London FFA and Ag ed. students planned and produced an interactive learning afternoon for PK-5th grade students called “Day on the Farm.”
· At the New London school board organizational meeting, the two winners took the oath of office. Mike McBeth was returned as President; Kyle Helmerson — VP; Janae Lemley-board secretary/treasurer; and Wahls and Boyer are on the negotiations committee.
Dec.
· NLHS Esports finishes their season at state in second place.
· The Holiday Stroll returns on Dec. 13.
· A New London story looks at World War II from clippings in the Journal from the years 1942-1944. It recounts the deaths of two New London soldiers.
· Winter sports (B & G basketball and wrestling) are set to begin at NLHS.
· Letters to Santa abound in the Dec. 18 edition.
· Tiger Pantry was presented with a $600 donation from Bob Lemley, past Noble Grand, and Sid Schmitt, Grand Conductor of Iowa I.O.O.F.
· The Holiday Stroll was canceled due to weather for the second year.
