Southeast Iowa Union offers audio versions of articles using Instaread. Some words may be mispronounced.
The school has a new money person; Her official title is the School Business Official (SBO). The job description says the SBO “serves as the Chief Financial Officer of the board. The SBO accounts for all district finances, assists the superintendent in the budgeting process, administers the district budget and acts in the position of Secretary of the Board in all respects such as attending board meetings, recording board minutes, preparing information.”
She has the education, the training, and the experience to learn the in’s and out’s of this new job with a minimal learning curve
She has spent the last 25 years in various capacities in the tax exempt and government entities division of the Internal Revenue Service. For a bonus, 13 of her 25 years were in a management position. Perfect … right?
But I really should tell you her name. It’s New London’s own Janae Lemley. She is a 1995 graduate of NLHS and received her Bachelor of Science in accounting from Truman State University in Kirksville, Missouri.
She explains how this job change came about, “I am thankful I had an opportunity to serve at the federal level and ultimately take early retirement, which led me to this position.”
When asked how it has been coming home, the word “wonderful” was her immediate response. She continued, “I was excited to find a position where I felt I could give back. I have always had a passion for nonprofit work and am highly driven to serve my community. It has been an added bonus that the position is in my hometown and get to give back to the community where I was raised and where I will raise my daughter. I have received the warmest welcome from the entire staff, board, and community. Though it’s been 30 years since I graduated, it truly feels like I never left.”
Janae and her daughter Alicyn moved back to New London earlier this year from St. Louis. She wanted to raise Alicyn close to her family. Along with her mom and dad, Bob and Cynde Lemley, there are also many cousins and aunts and uncles.
But spare time with a 3-year old is definitely limited. Her favorite pastime currently is spending time with Alicyn, her family and friends, and savoring all those little moments. Outside of raising a spirited 3-year old, she would love to get back into CrossFit and running.
Janae reiterated how good coming home and working for her alma mater has been. She sees a bright future for the school district and is excited to be part of it.
I am sure this former New London Tiger will be a perfect fit for the school and will do a great job in her new position.
Welcome home, Janae and Alicyn!
