Ag Committee Gives School Board a Fundraising Update

The New London school board held a regular meeting at 6 p.m. on March 24, 2025. All members were present, and they approved the amended agenda and consent agenda.
In public forum, Julie Brown addressed the board thanking the administration and others who help make the Dollars for Scholars possible. To date, the group has given $176.000 in scholarships since the auction’s inception in 2002. People that were thanked by name were Chad Wahls, Scott Kracht, Todd Palamatier, Alaina Nelson, and Allison Lair.
Tracy Lair spoke to the board next to give an update on the Ag committee’s progress. In three weeks, the group has formed a nonprofit organization called the New London Ag Foundation. The have raised $75,000 for first year pledges and $132,000 for three-year pledges. They are close to their first year goal. She thanked the community for their support.
Reports were next. Both principals discussed parent-teacher conferences and Mr. Palamatier discussed the success of Family Fun Night.
Mr. Kracht talked about the success of the musical and that it was well-attended by the public. There is a prom safety assembly. NHS imitation is April 9 in the auditorium with eight students inducted.
Mr. Wahls talk about the COPS grant and said the school could provide assistance in writing it. It would reduce the cost of the SRO. The last item was to meet and discuss various possibilities in positions and programs with the resignation of the halftime FCS instructor.
The board took the following actions:
- Approved two fundraisers: Treats and Trivia — Performing Arts and Kiss the Senior Goodbye — Student Council.
- Approved the 2025-2026 student fees. The only change will be key card and activity pass replacement at both set at $5.
- Approved passes no longer being used for the Fall play and the spring musical/variety show. Students (PK-12) @ $5 and adults @ $10 will be in place. This will help offset the cost to use copyrighted material.
- Approved the 2025-2026 cooperative purchasing agreement between NLCSD and AEA.
- Approved a new wireless system — a network upgrade/paid from PEBL fund.
In personnel matters, they approved the following:
- Appointments: Austin Burns — seasonal groundskeeper @ $14.50; Leo Boddicker — MS/HS special education teacher; and Riley Hopp — 4-year old preschool teacher.
- Overload Contract Termination: Jeanne Mulford, Bridget Swailes, Sarah McCollum, and Lindsey Wesely — all special education teachers and Joseph White — elementary art.
- Resignations: Alaina Nelson — .5 special education & .5 FCS teacher.
- Approved the second reading of board policy 401.01 R1 — employee fingerprinting (CHRI).
