As did the nation, Iowa and Henry County go red

The presidential election was Nov. 5, 2024. Nationally, Donald Trump was elected with 312 electoral votes and 74,708,357 in the popular vote count. By contrast, Kamala Harris garnered 226 electoral votes and 70,979,779 popular votes.
In Iowa District 1, Mariannette Miller-Meeks overcame Christina Bohannan by a slim margin of 206,660 votes to 205,884 or 50.1% to 49.9%. The other three districts also went Republican.
In Iowa, Trump pulled in 926,103 votes or 55.8%. Harris received 706,526 or 42.6%, and Robert Kennedy Jr. had 13,105 votes or 0.8%. Trump received all six of Iowa’s electoral votes. Of Iowa’s 99 counties, only five went blue or democrat: Johnson, Linn, Black Hawk, Polk, and Story.
In Henry County, with 13,551 registered voters, 9,672 ballots were cast. Trump received 6,439 votes or 67.3%. Harris received 2,994 votes or 31.3%. Kennedy received 88 votes or 0.8%.
State offices went as follow:
- State senator, District 48 - Mark Lofgren (R) 3,167 John Dabeet (D) - 1.115.
- State senator, District 44 - Adrian Dickey (R) 2,956/ Lisa Ossian (NPA) - 1,340.
- State representative, District 95 - Jeff Shipley (R) 2,920/Thomas O’Donnell (D) 1,416/Curtis Oliver (NPA) 130.
Two statewide ballot measures were on the Nov. 5, 2024 ballot. Amendment 1- Prohibit the state and local governments from allowing noncitizens to vote and allow 17-year-olds who will be 18 by the general election to vote in primary elections. It was passed by a vote of 1,140,286 or 77% to 340,696 or 23%.
Amendment 2- Provides that if the governor dies, resigns, or is removed from office, the lieutenant governor would assume the office of governor for the remainder of the term, thereby creating a vacancy in the office of lieutenant governor. It was passed by 81% or 1,188,931 votes to 19% or 278,012 votes.
