The New London City Council met on April 10, 2023, with Council member Benjamin absent. They approved the agenda, then opened a public hearing on the FY2024 Maximum Property Tax Dollars for the affected tax levy total. There were no citizen questions or comments. They approved Resolution #398 approving FY2024 Maximum Property Tax Dollars for the affected tax levy total not to exceed $612,856.
The Council approved the consent agenda and then tackled old business. A one-year extension with WEMIGA for hand pickup of garbage was approved at the following monthly rates:
•Residential - $13.50
•Senior Citizen - $12.50
•Non-Residential - $15.50
•Bi-annual Clean Up - $0.75
•Commercial Hand Pickup - $25.00
•Two-yard Container - $75.00
•Four-yard Container - $100.00
Sending out three requests for proposals for the annual audit and receiving two letters back declining to respond, the Council approved the proposal from Ted Weigand for FY 2023, FY 2024, and FY 2025 with the maximum price for the three audits at $12,350, $13, 215, and $14,299 respectively.
The Council next went to new business. They took the following actions:
•Approved pay estimate #3 to Jones Contracting for the second addition of the Pine Street Subdivision for $72,265.48.
•Approved 200 S. Pine Street to raise no more than four chickens (no roosters).
•Approved 503 W. Madison Street to raise no more than six chickens (no roosters).
The Council discussed the seeding quote for the sponsored project of $3,200 from Dewey Loyd. They took no action because they want to discuss it further with the project engineer. They would like to proceed yet this spring.
Other issues discussed by the Council included:
•Clearing the ditch/waterway to the south of the sponsored project near Adams St. and Easy St. The quote of $22,500 was obtained, but the Council will hold off until the storm sewer/roadway project is completed on N. Division St. They will then have a clearer picture of the budget.
•Relocating the dirt from the Pine Street Subdivision project. The Council feels the cost would be minimal, but will seek a price from the contractor. They will revisit this issue at their special meeting on April 24 or sooner if needed.
•Asphalting N. Pine St. and Kennedy St, They hope to have quotes for the May 8 meeting.
•Budgeting for a new street sweeper. The Council will begin to weigh their options at future meetings.
The meeting adjourned at 6:55 p.m. There will be a Special City Council meeting on April 24 at 4:30 p.m. at the City Office. The next regular meeting of the New London City Council will be May 8 at 6:00 p.m. at the City Office.
