Clark Elementary Celebrates with End of Year Assembly

At 8:45 a.m. on their last day of school, Clark Elementary students gathered in the new gym. The assembly featured the accomplishments of the students during the 2024-25 school year. Beginning with success in reading awards and stellar growth in mathematics, students were honored for their stellar classroom work.
After individual class awards, the president’s education awards were announced. The President’s Award for Achievement recognizes outstanding accomplishments of students. Specific objectives are Recognition of Excellence, Motivation and Inspiration of Others, and Building Community, The award can be given to individuals or teams.
The Presidential Award for Academic Excellence, honors students who demonstrate outstanding academic achievement and hard work thereby motivating them to reach their full potential. Specific objectives are Recognize Excellence, Motivate and Inspire, Promote Hard Work and Dedication, and Encourage Lifelong Learning thereby providing Individual Recognition.
The Fifth Grade students were then awarded with a Certificate of Promotion and everyone wished them well as they left Clark and proceeded next year to the Middle School.
The last act of the assembly was the introduction of the Clark Rock Band. Three Clark students have been tutored in guitar by Brett Powell. The four of them ended the year on a high note as they performed for the school. Jackson Blow, 3rd grade,; Malik Bergman, 5th grade and Monroe Allen, 2nd grade were confident and professional in their musical presentation.
Brett is the son of Annie Powell. She and her husband are the driving force behind the Community Thanksgiving dinner. Brett graduated from Danville High School. He attended New London through his sophomore year. Brett took piano lessons for three years and then switched to playing the guitar. He has been playing the guitar for 4 years.
His guitar teacher, Andrew Wheeler, graduated from a Berklee School of Music. Mr. Wheeler has also been helping Brett study music theory as well as continuing his guitar lessons. Berklee also offers lessons online.
