The Dollars for Scholars Board and Auction Committee issued an enormous “Thank You” to everyone who attended Saturday’s auction, donated items to be auctioned, helped with setup, or purchased the myriad items and food. The grand total from the event was a whopping $25,652!
“This success would not be possible without the incredible support of our community,” noted Julie Brown, one of the event’s organizers.
This year 101 businesses or individuals submitted items for live auction. Jason Denning, volunteer auctioneer, auctioned closer to 200 items as many donations were more than one item. Thirty silent auction creations were offered. Jodi Jackson served as clerk for the event. She bravely and busily kept up with all the paperwork
The evening begins early. Mr. Kracht, Mr. Wahls and many high school students helped set up the gym. Mrs. Nelson and the FCS Foods class prepared and served the delicious meal that preceded the auction.
There was a kids area so parents and guardians could concentrate on the auction. Pilot Grove Savings Bank sponsored those activities and Danville State Bank displayed many auction item in their own lobby.
Dollars for Scholars supports all New London graduates as they pursue their careers, and “Scholarship” is broadly defined. Tuition for community colleges, professional careers or four-year Institutions are not the only things provided by Dollars for Scholars. For New London students it could be tools for their new job, or the cost of graduating from accredited institutions. The High School staff and counselors are always on-call to help students fill out applications for help.
Treasurer Ann Mallams encourages anyone who was unable to attend the auction that would still like to donate to mail a check to the her: Ann Mallams, Treasurer; 2550 210th Street, Mt. Union, Iowa.
