The 2025 Dollars for Scholars Auction will be held at the New London Community School, Lorber Gymnasium Saturday, March 29. The doors open at 5 p.m. From 5-7 p.m. a freewill donation meal will be served by the New London School's food class, and the auction itself will start at 6 p.m.
New London Iowa Dollars for Scholars is a nonprofit organization that raises money for scholarships for New London High School graduates and increases the endowment fund for future New London graduates.
Nationally, Dollars for Scholars was founded in 1958 by an optometrist. Dr. Irving A Fradkin believed strongly in community support for its graduates. If everyone contributed just one dollar to a fund to help its graduates begin life after high school a great difference would be seen in those student’s success. In 1961 Scholarship America was officially chartered as “Citizens’ Scholarship Foundation of America.” Many Dollars for Scholars chapters belong to Scholarship America. Scholarship America is a philanthropic organization that assists communities, corporations, foundations and individuals with fundraising, managing and awarding scholarships to students. Last year Scholarship America had 432 chapters across America. Ten Thousand volunteers worked tirelessly to provide $24 million in aid for over 22 thousand students.
If a student chooses postsecondary education, there is a gap in a students’ financial aid and the real costs of this training. Dollars for Scholars can provide for some of these costs such as computers, tools, books, and supplies. All New London graduates are eligible for these funds. Students who opt to go directly to work from high school many times need these “last dollars” for uniforms, safety wear or tools. The High School staff, administrators, and counselors work hard advising students how to write and submit their applications for help.
Don’t miss this important event. It is your chance to make an important difference in our students’ futures.
