Dover Historical Society opens 2024 viewing season

Dover Museum has begun its 2024 viewing season. The museum, depot and chapel will be open for visits 1-4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, May through October. Monthly programs are scheduled Sunday afternoons 1:30-3 p.m. June 23 (WWI — local presenter,) July 21 (World War II - local presenter,) Aug. 18 (local artist,) Sept. 22 (Alaska Earthquake 1964) and Oct. 20 (Operation Lifesaver.)
During the month of May, the program is self-guided. Generational wedding dresses are on display in the Main room. Four generations of wedding dresses belonging to Grandmother Thedora Peet Rayner, daughter Diane Rayner Brinkmeyer, Granddaughter, Denise Brinkmeyer Bell and Great Granddaughter Denae Bell are exhibited. A three-generation set belonging to Grandmother Edna Bishop Dockendorff, Daughter Vera Dockendorff Shelledy and Granddaughter Dianne Shelledy Dickey are shown. Two-generation sets and a few new additions are on view. All have family stories associated with the displays.
A busy season is planned. Iowa Museum Week is always the second week of June. This year the dates are June 10-16. This is the year to plan to visit several of the museums in close proximity to New London.
