On Sunday afternoon, October 20 at 1:30 p.m., the Dover Museum in New London will present its last program for the year. The program is Operation Lifesaver. Dustin Bachtell is the guest speaker.
Dustin is a volunteer with the Midwest Central in Mount Pleasant. He is also a BNSF engineer and lives in our community. Every spring, Dustin does a special Operation Lifesaver presentation for our local 2nd graders when they visit our museum. He also helps out at the depot during our annual Holiday Stroll in December. You can sometimes watch Dustin in his BNSF locomotive switching the yard on Virtual Railfan's Burlington channel.
Iowa Operation Lifesaver (IA OL) is a nonprofit public safety education and awareness organization dedicated to reducing collisions, fatalities and injuries at highway-rail crossings and trespassing on or near railroad tracks. IA OL is part of the national Operation Lifesaver Inc. Find out about the three E;s – education, enforcement and engineering. Learn more about Operation Lifesaver at this web address: https://sites.oli.org/state/ia#about
Everyone is invited to attend. This program is for all age groups. With a busy rail line in New London, the information is particularly important. The Depot will be open until 4 p.m. after Dustin's program.
