A few years ago, well 75 to be exact, an anonymous poet would put little ditties in the paper. It turned out the poet was Judge Walters and his “partner-in-crime” was Ed Wessel, editor of the Journal and mayor of New London. This poem appeared in the Journal in 1950 after an election. I thought it would be fun to share. Judge Walter’s pen name was Sir Thomas Katt. The author wasn’t revealed until after Judge Walter’s death.
The noise and the shouting is over
The clamor and din fade away
The Victors are resting in clover
The losers in dismal dismay.
The promises made are forgotten
The future, well here is a glance
Taxes, more taxes, will hotten
The seat of taxpayers pants.
