On Feb. 6, Clark Elementary students were able to have their 100 Days celebration. The combined heavy snow, fog and wind chill caused the day of celebration to be moved farther and farther back on the calendar. Nevertheless, the festivities were as fun and enjoyable as ever. The beginning of the assembly, students are reminded of the school community as they chant “We Are CLARK.”
The students gathered in the new gym. 100 day hats, glasses, T-shirts were worn by many of the students. Many “old” ladies and gentlemen used canes and hobbled to their seats. The Fourth Grade classes were in charge of the assembly. Those students were all on task.
Every month, Clark students work on habits that will bring every one success as they grow and learn. The PBIS system used by the teachers emphasizes positive behavior. Tiger tickets are earned by practicing the “Habit” of the month and positive behaviors. This month the habit was “e Proactive” Being proactive teaches children integrity and responsibility. It means doing the right thing without being asked and being responsible for one’s own actions.
Other behaviors practiced this year include Begin with the End in Mind. Students think about the consequences of their actions or help them plan ahead and set goals. As students practice they become important parts of their classroom and community. Last month the habit practiced was Put 1st Things 1st. Setting priorities means saying no to some things, making a schedule and being disciplined and organized. Coming up soon will be Think Win-Win. Finding alternatives to solving a problem is an extremely important habit. Students practiced Win-Win 3 … 2 … 1 …(ALL TIGERS ROAR)
At the end of the assembly, a representative from each class brings a container of Tiger Tickets and used it to fill the PAW METER. Goals are set on the meter and treats are earned. Some are marked Mystery. On the 100th day of school, the PAW METER read success. A Movie and Popcorn day will soon be scheduled.
The assembly ends with “WE ARE CLARK.” As students return to their classrooms, canes are no longer needed by the “aged” members of the audience and everyone is ready to practice WIN-WIN along with all the other good habits they are learning.
