Early Sunday morning, July 2, the fire department was called out due to a fire in the building between the museum and the depot in the 200 block of West Main Street.
The building, owned by Micah Alden, houses apartments and a business.
The New London Fire department responded, finding flames and smoke coming from a window and garage door of the southwest corner of the building.
They requested assistance for departments with ladder trucks and Danville, West Burlington and Mt. Pleasant departments responded.
The situation was brought under control with no injuries. The firefighters stayed on scene until around 3 or 4 a.m.
Later in the day at around 2:30 p.m., they were called back as the fire had rekindled.
The four fire departments and the New London police were quickly back on the scene that drew a large crowd of onlookers. The firefighters put out the fire and stayed with the building for several hours.
Carter Chiropractic, housed in the front of the building, suffered some smoke damage. The museum and the depot suffered no damage.
The cause of the fire is unknown.
