Southeast Iowa Union offers audio versions of articles using Instaread. Some words may be mispronounced.
At 1:30 p.m. July 20, Matt and Tiffany Hauptman will talk about Henry Clay Seymour’s experiences fighting for the Union in the Civil War.
Henry is Tiffany’s great-great grandfather. This Civil War veteran from Danville, Iowa, kept diaries in which he wrote about his encounters. How does it feel to be shot at? Can you find enough food while marching through the devastated South.
These journals were carefully preserved by the family. A gun that Henry took from a battlefield will also be displayed. The Dover Museum is located at 213 W Main St., New London, Iowa. All museum buildings are handicapped accessible. Plan to take some time and visit the entire campus. The Dodds Chapel and the Pilot Grove Depot are on the same block just a short distance from the main entrance to the museum.
