A small, dedicated group of volunteers worked last Saturday morning on two year-round fundraising projects. The group has containers for cans and rebate bottles and maintains a shed with firewood for sale to campers at the campground.
The can and bottle rebate bins give visitors a place to dispose of these items and help the park at the same time. The rebate money is used for park projects as well as the renovation of the concession stand.
At different times of the year, the volunteers help the DNR clear downed trees in the park. The wood is then cut and split. The shed was virtually empty and a good share of the morning was spent filling it.
Many hands make light work. The Friends welcome more members who are interesting in helping. Memberships can be obtained through volunteering. Think about joining – meet great people and preserve a great recreational site in Southeast Iowa.
