A Wisconsin native, Don Zolidis is one of the most-produced playwrights in America. New London Performing Arts will bring Game of Tiaras, Don’s 2015 comedy, to life with three performances: Friday, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 15 a 2 p.m. matinee and a 7 p.m. closing show.
The play has been described as combining Game of Thrones, King Lear, and three fairy tale princesses in one hilarious story. It is hard to imagine treachery, politics and blood in a sidesplitting performance. The New London cast is working hard and perfecting their techniques.
The story portrays what happened when an aging king decides to split his empire between his three daughters, Cinderella, Belle, and the Snow Queen (do not expect this Snow Queen to resemble the Disney princess). The descriptions of the play include gut-wrenching plot twists of Games of Thrones and the despair of a Shakespearean tragedy while one dies with laughter and the body count rises. The Game is definitely win or die.
Trying out for the cast of the fall play was very competitive. Congratulations are due to all. A hilarious show is in the works as these students rehearse. Several 8th grade students joined the cast. Some appear as extras while a few have speaking roles. The entire cast and crew are doing an amazing job. Everyone’s excitement and work will ensure quality productions far into the future.
As the great King Lear once said, “This cold night will turn us all to fools and madmen.” Don’t miss this wonderful play as it unfolds with our talented students. Share the madness produced by the bumbling king, princesses, dwarfs, flamboyant princes, unexpected famous people and soap opera twists.
Let the games begin!
