At 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 24, at the Henry County Heritage Center Museum, Denny White will bring a portion of his extensive personal collection of Native American artifacts. As he displays these precious items, he will share stories about Native American culture and artifacts left behind in this area. The museum is located in the old Saunders School at 403 West Madison Street in Mount Pleasant.
Denny White annually organizes the Hawkeye State Archaeological Society’s artifact show. This year, with the closing of Iowa Wesleyan, the show was a challenge. The Mount Pleasant High School opened its doors for the society. The show was astounding and well done as usual.
To become a member of the Hawkeye State Archaeological Society, go to their Facebook site to find dues and address of the Secretary. Another option for those interested in Iowa Archaeology, the Iowa Archeological Society (IAS) founded in 1951 is a possibility. The IAS publishes the Journal of the Iowa Archaeological Society and a Newsletter. The Hawkeye group is close. There is still important work being done in the state. Keep up on the new discoveries and theories.
