NEW LONDON — The election season is over for 2023 and with it is a respite from political ads.
This was the year for a school board election. Three seats were open, with Tasha Gipple the only incumbent seeking re-election. Jesse Howard and Tim Myers declined to run again. Five candidates ran with these results:
•Mike McBeth — 332*
•Jen Loyd — 260*
•Becky Hays — 248*
•Tasha Gipple — 215
•Dana Cole — 183
There were nine write-in votes.
Both public measures, impacting the school, passed with comfortable margins. The NL Public Measure JZ (PPEL) had a total of 379 votes counted with 245 “yes” votes to 134 “no” votes or 64.6% for passage.
The NL Revenue Purpose Statement 44-KA, better known as the “SAVE statewide penny tax,” had a total of 447 votes counted with 357 “yes” votes to 90 “no” votes or 79.9% for passage.
In New London City Government, all three candidates ran unopposed. Kirk Mille returns as Mayor. Incumbent Travis Benz returns to the Council, and Dawn Sines wins the third open seat.
